This provides a robust methodology to effectively measure GHG emissions from land, forests, and soils across the supply chain to be embedded in corporate and product footprints, which can be used for science-based climate target setting efforts. This groundbreaking guidance is expected to transform sustainable management of forestry and agriculture in corporate supply chains.
Taxonomy regulation delegated act Annex 1 of EU Taxonomy
SDG 13
This is the technical screening criteria of the EU Taxonomy for determining the conditions under which an economic activity qualifies as contributing substantially to climate change mitigation and for determining whether that economic activity causes no significant harm to any of the other environmental objectives.
This Good Practice Guidance (GPG) document provides guidance on how to calculate the extent of land degradation for reporting on United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 15.3.1: the proportion of land that is degraded over total land area. This guidance supports implementation of the Tier I methods for Indicator 15.3.1 adopted by the UN Statistical Commission, and the development of analytical methods for measuring its three sub-indicators.
IDB Discussion paper – A Framework and Principles for Climate Resilience Metrics in Financing Operations
SDG 13
This paper sets out principles, including core concepts and other characteristics of climate resilience metrics, together with a high-level framework for such metrics in financing operations. It focuses specifically on systems of measurement to define and report on the contribution of financing activities toward climate resilience objectives, rather than providing a universal guide for climate resilience financing activities themselves.
It has been developed by the Inter-American Development Bank Climate Change Division.
UK International Climate Finance Key Performance Indicator 4
SDG 13
Key Performance Indicator 4 represents a global innovation in climate resilience KPIs, sidestepping the lack of a universal metric to count climate resilience per se, and instead counting the number of people with improved climate resilience. For the purposes of this KPI, this proxy is operationalised as: “improvements in individuals’ capacities to adapt, anticipate and/or absorb climate-related shocks and stresses.”
KPI 4 has been developed by Climate Change Compass, who help the UK Government monitor, evaluate and learn from UK International Climate Finance.
Global Forest Watch makes the best available data about forests available online for free, creating transparency about what is happening in forests worldwide. Better information supports smarter decisions about how to manage and protect forests for current and future generations, and greater transparency helps the public hold governments and companies accountable for how their decisions impact forests. GFW data is accessed daily by governments, companies, civil society organizations, journalists, and everyday people who care about their local forests.
The EX-Ante Carbon-balance Tool (EX-ACT) is based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) methodology for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories. EX-ACT provides its users a consistent way of estimating and tracking the impact of Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) investments and policies on GHG emission levels. EX-ACT is the only GHG accounting tool to cover the entire AFOLU sector, including agricultural inputs, energy, infrastructure, management of mineral and organic soils, coastal wetlands, fisheries and aquaculture.
The Species Threat Abatement and Restoration Metric (STAR) allows quantification of the potential contributions that species threat abatement and restoration activities offer towards reducing extinction risk across the world. STAR is now available via the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) through STAR Beta – a free, time limited early access programme. After creating an IBAT account, signup for STAR Beta through the IBAT Dashboard to receive 30 free bespoke STAR Reports.
The Species Threat Abatement and Restoration (STAR) metric documents the contribution of specific conservation and restoration actions in specific places by businesses, governments, civil society, and other actors towards global goals for halting extinctions. As such STAR helps identify actions that have the potential to bring benefits for threatened species, and it supports the establishment of science-based targets for species biodiversity.
